Tips for meeting the people you get to know on Machiwa safely.
Reporting and blocking
If you see harassment or inappropriate content, report it to us.
- Posts, comments, stories, event photos and Today's log: use their Report option
- Chat and DM messages: long-press the message and choose Report
- Used items: use "Report or block this listing" on the listing
When you block someone, their posts and messages are hidden right away and we are asked to review them. You can see and undo blocks in My → Settings → Blocked users.
Meeting for the first time
- Meet in a busy place during the day.
- Tell family or a friend where you are going and when.
- Don't drink more than you want to, and keep an eye on your drink. Drinking under 20 is prohibited in Japan.
- If you feel uneasy, it's fine to leave.
Personal information
Don't write your phone number, home address or workplace in chats, on boards or in DMs. Get people's consent before they appear in Today's log or event photos.
Avoiding money trouble
Machiwa does not handle payments or delivery. Agree on an item's condition, the hand-over place and how to pay between yourselves. Pay event fees as the host explains, and report large requests for payment in advance or links to outside sites.
In an emergency (Japan)
- If you're in danger, call 110 (police).
- For an ambulance or fire, call 119.
- For police advice that is not an emergency, call #9110.
- For trouble with purchases or contracts, call the consumer hotline 188.
